HERE'S WHY THE DEMOCRATIC SOCIALISTS WANT TO CREATE A NEW U.S. CONSTITUTION

"Those who will not learn from the past are doomed to repeat it."
Winston Churchill

The Democratic Socialists strike me as being full of themselves, arrogant and naïve. The fact that they consider themselves wiser than America’s founding generation, which created, perhaps, the freest and most prosperous society in the history of mankind, speaks volumes of their inflated egos.

They would abolish the Senate, abolish the presidency, restructure the Supreme Court and give us a completely new Constitution, leading to a new form of government. Why? Because they need power to implement their socialist-communist agenda; and what is standing in the way of their grab for power more than anything else is the U.S. Constitution.

In the Constitution, America’s Founders implemented checks on power because they did not trust unlimited power in the hands of any one or any few. They would agree with Sir John Acton who said, “Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely.”

They put Constitutional restraints on power because they believed in the Biblical concept of original sin—that the human condition is flawed and cannot be trusted with power. Politicians often complain about how difficult it is to get anything done in Washington, D.C. That is how the Founders planned it and it has served the nation well for 250 years.

Not only do the founding documents have restraints on power, they have provided the proactive legal and inspirational means for the nation to overcome slavery, Jim Crow, the Soviet Empire and other ills.

If anyone could have had an argument against America’s founding it would have been the former slave and abolitionist, Frederick Douglass. Douglass, however, came to see the genius of America’s founding documents and in an 1852 July 4th speech, he called the U.S. Constitution “a glorious liberty document” and lauded the Declaration of Independence, telling his audience,

The principles contained in that instrument are saving principles. Stand by those principles, be true to them on all occasions, in all places, against all foes, and at whatever cost.

Douglass had come to see the actions of the Founding Fathers in light of the worldwide existence of slavery throughout all of recorded history. He came to realize that they did not invent slavery but had taken giant steps to see it eliminated, including the manner in which they formulated the founding documents. In the same speech, he declared,

Fellow Citizens, I am not wanting in respect for the fathers of this republic. The signers of the Declaration of Independence were brave men. They were great men too—great enough to give fame to a great age. It does not often happen to a nation to raise, at one time, such a number of truly great men.

Unlike Douglass, the modern Democratic Socialists have no respect for America’s founding generation. They identify more with Mao and Marx than with Washington and Madison.

For the Democratic Socialists it is all about power. They want to destroy the present Constitution because it stands as a roadblock to their quest for power and control. They want a new Constitution and form of government that will give them the power to implement their socialist-communist agenda--an agenda that has miserably failed wherever and whenever it has been tried.

What shall we do? First of all, we must pray for the enlightenment of the American populace and we must show the dangers of the DSA platform and the blessing of capitalism that is rooted in Christian values. We must speak the truth in love. We must proclaim the power that is in the name of Jesus. We must be proactive and focus on shining the light rather than cursing the darkness. Remember the promise of Isaiah 61:1-3;

Arise, shine, for your light has come,
and the glory of the Lord rises upon you.
See, darkness covers the earth
and thick darkness is over the peoples,
but the Lord rises upon you
and his glory appears over you.
Nations will come to your light,
and kings to the brightness of your dawn.
